Disclaimers

This auction is being held by the families of the Commerce Department Child Development Center (Commerce Kids). Commerce Kids is an independent non-profit entity, established by the Department of Commerce to provide care for children of its employees (and others). All items offered for auction were donated to Commerce Kids by individuals, businesses, and institutions for the purpose of raising money for the scholarship fund and center programming.

Silent Auction

Items listed in the catalog will be displayed in numerical order throughout the auction space. Each silent auction item has its own bid sheet. You can bid on as many—and as often—as you like. Use your bidder number to bid on silent auction items. Bids must begin at the minimum bid and continue incrementally as noted on the bid sheets. If you are overbid by others, feel free to do the same to them!

All persons wishing to participate in the silent auction must register. Each registered participant will receive a numbered bidder card. The number will identify the bidder on the silent auction bid sheets.

Paying for and Collecting Your Winnings

You may pay by cash or check. Checks must be made payable to Commerce Kids. One check may be used to pay for all of your purchases. A receipt will be issued for the items for which payment has been made. Returned checks are subject to bank handling charges. Payment must be made on the day of the auction, unless other arrangements are made with Commerce Kids.  If payment is not made by the agreed-upon deadline, the item will be offered for sale to the next highest bidder.

All items purchased must be taken home the day of the auction. Unless otherwise specified, certificates for meals, services, tours, etc., must be claimed and used within one year at a date, time, and place mutually agreed upon by donor and buyer. Note that for many items deadlines and other restrictions are noted in the catalog and/or on the bid sheets. Please read carefully! All purchases are subject to the stated restrictions. All sales are final; there are no refunds or exchanges. Errors and omissions are not the responsibility of the auctioneer, Commerce Kids, its board, or the families.

IMPORTANT TAX INFORMATION: The amount of your payment to Commerce Kids that is deductible for federal income tax purposes is limited to the excess of your successful bid over the value of the item purchased. The fair market value of each item offered, which was provided by the donor or estimated in good faith by Commerce Kids based on material costs or market comparables, will be provided with your receipt. You may wish to retain that receipt for your tax records.
