Dancing Bears Classroom Schedule

activities within the various areas in the classroom. Children may
also eat snacks brought from home until 8:30 a.m.
8:45–9:15 Snack time: Snack is served family style,
with teachers at the tables to assist when needed.
9:15–9:25 Morning Meeting: The Dancing Bears begin
the day with Morning Meeting — a relaxed time when the children
greet each other and their teachers; share "Headline News"; give
compliments; discuss problems, classroom plans, and activities; talk
about the weather; go over the schedule for the day; discuss the
question of the day; engage in practical/hands on math problems;
and/or do calendar math (days of the week, counting, comparing,
etc.). Children learn the basics of democracy during this time of day
(e.g., voting, expressing opinions, etc.).
9:25–10:25 Exploration time: Children engage in
self-initiated learning activities in a teacher supervised
environment and with prepared activities. Children are welcome to
participate in a small group activity or explore in the different

Individual teaching: Children may choose to
work with teachers individually. Children may work on handwriting,
letters, numbers, etc.
10:25–11:25 Outdoor play (weather permitting):
Child-directed play under teacher supervision. Children may also use
group walks to explore the community. In the event of bad weather,
children may engage in gross motor activities in the playroom. This
is a time for physical development.
Power Tots: Children engage in gymnastics
as a way to strengthen their gross motor skills. Children learn basic
gymnastics skills such as rolls, cartwheels, roundoffs, and
walkovers. Children also receive instruction on a wide variety of
equipment such as parallel bars, barrel mat, crescent mat, vaulting
blocks, spring board, wedge mat, and balance beams.
Music and movement: Children engage in
developmentally appropriate music and movement activities. CDCDC
contracts with three different instructors to offer a variety of
music and movement experiences.
11:25–12:00 Circle time: Children engage in large group
activities including songs, fingerplays, music and movement
activities, and reading books. Teachers will often introduce new
concepts to the children during circle time. Children will also
discuss the pillar of the month from the Character Counts!
curriculum. This is a time for social, cognitive, and language
development.

teachers at the tables to assist when needed.
